Not only Moscow, but without any doubt all of Russia knows or has heard about the architectural ensemble of the Moscow Kremlin. The Moscow Kremlin is also famous for its towers, each of which has its own history.

Unfortunately, the delicate and fabulous Tsarskaya Tower can “boast” of having the most concise historical information.

Tsar's tower - description and history

The exact date of the construction of the Tsar's Tower is well known - this is the end of the 17th century, or more precisely, the year 1680... The Tsar's Tower is very similar to a tent, only built of stone. The tent is propped up by 4 stone pillars in the form of a vase (with a smooth thickening in the middle).

The Tsarskaya Tower differs from the rest of the Moscow Kremlin towers by a wide variety of architectural details - there are pediments with sharp tops, belts, and small round pyramids are located in the corners. At the top of the tower is a working weather vane, very well made and also gilded.

In general, the tower resembles a classic teremok from Russian fairy tale folklore. The Tsar's Tower consists of 2 tiers - the first one serves as an auxiliary bridge in order to be able to walk along the wall. The second is an ordinary platform, because once the Spassky bell hung in the Tsar's tower. The height of the Tsar's Tower without taking into account the height of the wall is 14.45 meters, the total height with a weather vane is 16.7 meters.

What was on the site of the Tsar's Tower before it was erected? There is no exact answer to this question that would be 100 percent reliable. However, there are still a number of interesting assumptions about this. There are some very contradictory references in the history of Russia that during the time of Ivan the Terrible there was a wooden tower there.

It was built especially for him, so that he would sit there during all events of national importance. For the king, this place provided an excellent opportunity to observe all the significant events that took place on Red Square. They say that the tower got its name (Tsarskaya) precisely from the "post" of Ivan the Terrible.

Restoration of the Tsar's Tower in the XX century

The tower underwent extensive restoration by order of Stalin in the period from 1946 to 1950. In addition to it, at this time all the other towers located on the territory of the Moscow Kremlin were restored.
